i voted touchscreen 2006
Another November election and another disappointment in the general population.
California Proposition Results
The reason for my disappointment? The selfishness and hypocrisy of people. All the proposed bond measures passed. All the taxes were rejected. My assumption is the following scenario:
Voter: Ooh bonds. Money now for things I need. Good. Good. It's not my money and it's free.
Voter: Eww taxes. Taxes bad, that's my money. Hell no!
Don't people realize bonds aren't free money? A bond measure is essentially borrowing money and having to pay it back two-fold. California is already in debt, issuing more bonds would make California even more in debt. So what happens? Every single bond measure passed. Unbelievable. How do we get things done without getting California more in debt? Taxes. What happens? All the tax measures are rejected. Eeesh.
One other thing, people always complain about how it's all about education, how education funding always gets cut, and it needs more funding, etc. What happens when a measure goes on the ballot that would increase education funding? It gets shot down. Why? Because it requires an increase in taxes. As my friend put it, I bet it would have passed if it required issuing bonds.
Utterly disappointed.
