an evening with warm strangers at the independent
Vienna Teng played at The Independent last night. At first I thought it was a strange venue for her to play in, but apparently, she had different things in mind. The Independent was her attempt at rocking out. Although I prefer the original orchestral/acoustic style of her songs, I dug the idea that, in this live performance, she tried to adapt them to a more electro style. After all, isn't that what live performances are about? Variation and something that doesn't sound like a CD? Oh, and in case Vienna ever googles herself and finds her way here, I was the short Asian guy in the front row shouting for "Mission Street" as the encore and I'd totally stalk you if I weren't so lazy.

Sheila didn't make it. I woke up this morning to find the area where she laid being swept. Too much blood had been lost I suppose. It makes my eyes water up a bit thinking about her and Kito being gone (and all within a little more than a week).
I hand fed water to her last night (with a bottle cap) since she was rather immobile. Shortly after, she threw up some of the food she had earlier in the day. And it is sad that my last image of her was her laying there, breathing heavily and slowly with a wimper, and with dried blood caked all over her fur. I suppose if there's a dog heaven, in her passing, she'll get to see her companion in life (Kito) again.

We gave Max (Maxie) away to the humane society today. She apparently bit Sheila in the neck area really badly. Sheila's sort of a mess right now and has probably lost a lot of blood. She's resting raspily at the moment and I'm hoping she'll be able to recover. As for Max, she will be fine from what the humane society said. A pure bred German Shepherd is bound to get adopted by the police if no one else comes along. I wish her the best.
This all has been rather depressing. Kito passes away and now this.

a moment of clarity (by way of cheating)
Aha! I just remembered the Bonnie Mckee cd came with liner notes. The lyric is:
Can't come around here no more.
Mystery solved.

Kito passed away today. Whenever I got home, he and Sheila (the two poms) would be there to greet me (until my family booted all the dogs out to the backyard to make way for my sis' baby). Both of the poms were always laid-back and cool enough to just chill at the foot of your seat (unlike all of our other dogs). I always liked that about them. Kito was especially chilled (mostly because he was a lazy dog). He was probably my favorite next to Sheila. I will miss him.

Archetype: Alpha Boss
You are a power driven risk-taker. Your desire to obtain power quickly propels you to take large risks, both financially and socially. You are so effective and confident when it comes to making short term decisions at crucial moments that it almost becomes contagious. Your high confidence level leads you to focus on the rewards of your decisions, rather than over-calculating. Your directness may make others think you are rude. You know what you want and you want it now.
Some people consider you a political mastermind as you are able to take advantage of peoples strengths and weaknesses so effectively, that it enables you to undertake and achieve monumental tasks. Others tend to characterize you as confrontational, but you take this as a compliment, and in turn you characterize these people as push-overs. You would rather stand up for yourself and those you care about and face confrontation, than avoid confrontation and give in. You act promptly when it comes to making big decisions and thus others look to you to carry the burden of responsibility.
-------------------------------------------------
I am definitely not an alpha boss. That high risk factor completely throws off my analysis.

her voice, my ears, the combination, d.e.a.f.
Since Jo Whiley is going missing for 2 weeks and Sara Cox (who sounds like an unattractive drunken British woman) is her replacement, I've resorted to listening to music on MySpace (why can't they freaking add a repeat button?).
Long ago, I had mentioned my absolute adoration of Bonnie Mckee. Well I'd just like to re-iterate that as I've been listening to "When It All Comes Down" on MySpace over and over (due to the Sara Cox repulsion as mentioned above). That song is just, just, let's see, hair-raisingly spectacular. One thing does bug me though. I've been pulling out hair trying to figure out the lyric that goes after the following lines:
It feels so empty,
Without my hand intwined with your's
I don't know where to go
Cause I'm all alone
Ain't got nobody on my side
[mystery lyric goes here]
A quick google (via a9) search turned up 2 different lyrics. They are:
Ain't got nobody on my side
and got my running your warm
and
Ain't got nobody on my side
You here [sic] me, no one
Neither of them seem correct. The first one just plain doesn't make sense, and the second one sounds nothing like what she sings. It's bugging me that I can't figure it out. My current guess is:
Ain't got nobody on my side
Ain't got nobody no more
Oh well. I still love the song anyway.

intolerance, the hard kind
I never suspected a thing, except for the oddity as to why Ky was driving down Nam's street at the moment I arrived at his house. Never the less, I was surprised by everyone and even if I did not probably completely show it, I was grateful for it all. I have a great set of friends and am glad of their tolerance for me through out the years. Sadly, I'm intolerant though, not to my friends, but to hard liquor. Me and Jack Daniels don't go together very well. Thanks to everyone for being there though.
