opposition of what is prevalent

Here's my idea (that I didn't come up with--so I guess it isn't really my idea, but whatever): Come up with a thing to do that none of my group of friends has done before and all of us do it within a certain amount of time. Example? Give a flower (or flowers) to a complete stranger. Any ideas? Shoot them my way.

one thousand in a million

How odd, via the Baby Name Wizard's NameVoyager, my name was most unpopularly used (to name babies) in the decade I was born, the 1980s. That is all.

the chinese joan of arc and the african son of god

So I actually watched the Grammy's last night. I am completely out of the loop on this, but I had never actually heard or seen a video of any of Kanye West's songs prior to last night. And from what I saw, if I were Christian, I would be offended. His "Jesus Walks" song is nothing but a self-absorbed, self-worship, bragfest of a tune. The audacity of it all. From his performance (never seen the video though), he was basically claiming himself to be Jesus. He dies, the people mourn, and he is ressurrected to walk among the "mortals" again. Am I taking crazy pills? How is it that everyone thinks it was an amazing performance? The guy deified himself on stage (he even finished it with him ascending up with angel wings). It was offensive even to a non-believer like myself.

Oh and the guilt-filled awarding to Ray Charles? Don't get me wrong, but it just felt like Aaliyah all over again. You should get awards for being good, not because you're dead. I mean, I'm sure Ray Charles is good, but sweeping everything? It just felt like the Grammy's were feeling a little guilty for not rewarding him when he was alive. Don't get me started on Aaliyah (that seemed more like not guilt, but pity and sentimentality).

Anyway, I saw Mulan II over the weekend. It was a so-so movie. I'll admit, it was some what entertaining, but the plot was some what lacking too. I suppose it's good for kids (since the little girl that made us watch it seemed to have loved it). The major weakness was that throughout the whole movie, there wasn't a sense of threat at any moment. Along with that, the ending was rather anti-climatic too as the real problem was never given a solution. At the end, we have a happily ever after scene, which indicates the real problem was solved, but yet, we are never shown or told how.

One neat thing to come out of the film is that Atomic Kitten has a track on the Mulan II Soundtrack. I'm estactic, but I don't think I'll pay 7 bucks for it.

i'll take you where the water's deep

I was born in the Year of the Widow. Am I that much of a bad luck? Supposedly, the Year of the Rooster is considered by many to be a bad year (in comparison to the Year of the Monkey, which precedes it). It is especially so for those born in the very year, as every 12 years one should expect a bad year by Asian superstitions. However, according to this, it may not be so terrible after all.

Either way, I believe in neither of those. I'm a deist.

things of old in the day of present

I've recently been re-introduced to the wonders of Mirah via this. And I must say, I am hooked. "Cold Cold Water" is one wonderful song. I think P-man does a good job of talking about her music (better than I can do) so go read his post if you care.

An odd thing yesterday. I was driving to work at 7:30am on 101 N and noticed a particular car driving in the mass of traffic. It was noticeable to me because it was a DeLorean and you just don't see one of those very often anymore. Later that day, as I was leaving work and heading to downtown at 5:00pm via 87 S, wouldn't you know it, I saw another DeLorean. Frankly, I have reason to believe it was the same DeLorean. What are the odds that I'd see the same vehicle traveling in the same direction at 2 different times on 2 different freeways. Now if you're a local, you know that 101 N and 87 S go to fairly different areas. Wonder where he was headed?

The DeLorean looked exactly like this (with its doors closed of course):
