it's time to party like it's...

...1989? Now there's a whole new reason to visit New York. Screw the Empire State Building, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Broadway, and whatever else there is, I'd head straight to the Awesome 80's Prom whenever I get the chance. Who wants to be my date?

is this the end?

Hurricanes in Florida, earthquakes in California, and a space rock the size of a city may hit Earth. Perhaps we're doomed.

But seriously, the largest asteroid to come within 4 million miles of earth is headed this way and there are rumors of possible doom. But obviously since I doubt anyone I know of (including me) has actually heard of these rumors, it is highly unlikely that this object will hit Earth. It is one of the oddest space rocks discovered though, as it seems to be bell shaped or peanut shaped and wobbles in it's flight. As a result of this, the path it takes is unpredictable (thus the rumors). Fascinating.

man's best doctor?

So, apparently a study has found that dogs can detect cancer in humans. Pretty fancy. Apparently it's something to do with unusual proteins that dogs may be able to smell. It sounds good to me, only barrier is finding a way for the dogs to communicate their discovery. Here's hoping to more funky helpful things in the future.

that's why i drink tomato juice

Just a fair warning to all of you who may be flying and drinking non-bottled water on planes.

Anyway, I was leaving work this morning, apparently, at the same time my neighbors (2 kids and an adult) were leaving for pre-school (I think). As I was about to pull forward after reversing out of the drive way to drive off, one of the kids waved at me and smiled. I don't know the kid, but oddly enough, that just made my day. It was such a strange and nice gesture that (dare I use the word?) I thought it was "cute."

the infinite frontier

Now how safe is a roller coaster in the sky? My question is, so is this a ride or is this just a more exciting commercial flight? Color me an idiot because I don't see any mention of what the point of this thing is.

Maybe if the flight flies high enough, it might get hit by this? Or how about we put the research of flight more towards flying people to here? Space things always fascinate me.

noting the obvious

To this, I say, "duh."

And to this, I say, "interesting." Especially to Nam. What a job.

methods of motivation

So, the UK is proposing a tax break for exercising in order to fight the growing "epidemic" of obesity. How interesting.

the time is near and the choice unclear

This is probably the first article I've read thus far that sparked an interest in me in terms of the varying policies between the two presidential candidates and how they're going to deal with it. Despite my interest though, I'm still confused as to which is better. For some reason, Bush's plan sounds better, but more complicated for the individual, which means, it probably won't work. Kerry's plan sounds like the typical, expand government program (which = more taxes), but is far more simpler and easier for the common joe/jane to do. I still don't know though.

what goes around...

How sad is this? Poor puppies. I suppose the guy deserved what he got. However, what happened to him seemed so unlikely that it makes me think that, perhaps, there is a higher power that punishes us for our wrongdoings afterall...

we have a dilemma

Wow, look what Newman (aka Wayne Knight) has done to himself. Now who's going to eat the stumps of the muffin?

the ultimate faker?

This article at blogcritics was rather entertaining. I don't have much to say about it other than that you should at least check out one of the links from that article. Oh heck, I'll give you guys a short cut: Air Guitar USA. Then watch the interview of the champ on Conan. Pretty funny stuff. Go up and perform and pretend you snap a string. That Conan is a genius.

Anyway, if you haven't noticed, I've added a new link on the side of my page. It's to ourweddingfavors.com. Why? Do I have wedding plans or something? Hmmm....

a period free from an expenditure of effort

Labor Day weekend has just passed. I didn't get to visit the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland that I wanted to visit two days in a row due to the fact that we (or I) ran late on both days. I did however attend my first mass at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco. I've always wanted to attend church, you know, to try to find my faith in something. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I lack faith, I just lack a sense of direction to put my faith in. I'm not too sure if organized religion is for me though... It's probably because I was clueless of everything that they were doing, but it seemed all too routinely for me. I guess I have to face the facts, I just want the benefits of having faith without the sacrifices. How greedy of me.

There was another first to this weekend, but I'll leave that out.
